The Best Jackets and Coats for Winter 2024/2025
If you’re a fashion gal, then Fall is for you. Also if you’re a Gilmore Girl, or if you’re pregnant and heat is literally a slow but painful killer.
Layering season is creeping up, and slowly but surely almost upon us. With spooky time around the corner, I have taken it upon myself to bring to you my own personal guide to the wardrobe pieces that will see you through cold-weather days, from blazers and bombers to bouclé and shearling.
A go-to for me, especially as we hit transitional dressing times, is an oversized blazer. This season they come in relaxed shapes, with power shoulders and longer lengths- which is amazing if, like me, you’re considering Ozempic and are still carrying a mom-bum around the place.
Blaze Milano did a pinstriped wool and cashmere-blend blazer for this season, which is high on my wishlist, and works in any wardrobe capsule.
There is also a double breasted oversized wool blazer by Stella McCartney, and a light grey Dries van Noten oversized checked wool piece that I can see with a turtle neck and dark denim and cool boots.
A classic, fit wise, for me is also always the RACIL Bianca tuxedo, which is made from soft virgin wool with satin lapels, and takes any outfit effortlessly from day time to evening.
A classic coat is a must in my wardrobe (see me in Toteme above), and I’m someone who can have a classic cashmere coat in every shade of neutral, and a few pop colours- it’s sort of my jam…
Loewe does a cool pebble cotton corduroy-trimmed wool coat in a green shade this season, which I’m loving.
Khaite’s Roth belted grain de powder coat is a no-brainer really, and a wardrobe must, if you don’t already own something like this.
Another coat I’m loving for Fall Winter is the Brunello Cucinelli double breasted cashmere felt coat, which comes in a sky blue- almost a bit grey toned, and works so well with all day-looks in a well edited wardrobe.
Finally, a dream- but if you live in the Cotswolds like me, it will remain a dream, because who can wear white silk blend with a 40kg dog running the fields?! The Loro Piana silk, wool and cashmere and linen blend coat is stunning for Fall Winter.
Shearling is so cool for the Fall Winter Season, and there are some good finds out there at the moment.
I had an absolute jaw-on-floor moment when I found the Saint Laurent Shearling Jacket for this season, which exudes old Hollywood glamour, and all of a sudden no look of mine is complete without it- how can I get coffee without it from now on? What on earth else could I wear to drop my daughter off at play group?!
On a slightly more serious note though, Toteme is doing a leather-trimmed shearling coat in a brown which I love also. I always find that their pieces will always feel relevant, and don’t really follow seasonal trends.
Joseph have a great black shearling coat going on at the moment, which is reversible, and can be worn on the smooth leather or plush shearling side, making it super versatile and a real forever piece.
Possibly a tiny bit too cool for me personally, but a wardrobe classic is the Acne Studios' 'Velocite' jacket, which is actually so chic and cozy, and on top of everything great for carrying around things due to the many pockets and zips. I love the juxtaposition of wearing it with a feminine dress, and it's easy to see why Kendall Jenner, Hailey Bieber (congrats on the new baby!) and Alexa Chung are all fans.
Queue the puffer jacket: I remember being 14 and really petitioning hard for my mother to buy me a cropped electric blue puffer jacket for winter in Munich- which is basically the Alps, and very snowy and freezing cold. Teamed with my uber low-rise True Religion jeans, my entire midriff would be on display (which was totally the point in 2003).
I did get the jacket for my birthday (in December) that year, but it was very much an ‘extra’ jacket for fashun purposes, to complete a ‘look’.
This Season does not disappoint when it comes to trusty puffers for those ultra cold days.
I like the Brelle ribbed-knit trimmed quilted shell down jacket by Moncler, which comes in a gorgeous warm brown shade.
Burberry does a shorter grosgrain-trimmed quilted shell jacket, which is also lovely in a black neutral tone- classic, fail safe and easy!
Finally, I’m bursting into silent song, and can hear sleighbells ringing in my head- which clearly needs a break on a beach somewhere. A coat to walk in a winter wonderland in, is the Moncler Grenoble Chamoille belted down puffer coat in a white shade that feels so appropriate for the French Alps. Now all we need is some snow, and we’re good to go!
