The Mummy Diaries 1.2

Before I got pregnant, actually before I even met my husband, I began my personal health journey, making sure that I was taking the right supplements and vitamins for my body.

Since my daughter is no longer on her formula milk, I’ve become more aware of her vitamin intake, which isn’t always easy to achieve with food.

This is where Baba West enters the chat.

Baba West is a supplement brand which provides optimum nutrition for children and babies, created by parenting expert and fellow Cotswolds-er Leo Bamford (another Leonora!) and midwife Zita West.

My daughter was diagnosed with a lactose intolerance (like my tiramisu-hating husband) when she was only a few weeks old, and until recently has been on breast milk and a specialised lactose-free formula powder. Whilst I am so thankful that her intolerance was diagnosed early, and she was doing great on the synthetic milk substitute - it is just that; a synthetic milk substitute, which smells and tastes bitter and very much pavement-like.

Progressing from the 25th centile through to the 50th and skyrocketing straight to the 92nd within about 8 months, the milk was doing its job. Still, I couldn’t wait to stop mixing up the vile smelling powder which included all her needed vitamins and nutrients whilst she was on a milk-heavy diet.

So when she turned one, I started giving my daughter oat milk (which I can’t say she’s loving, but is slowly tolerating), and quickly noticed a drop in her general wellbeing. Formula powder of course includes all the multivitamins little ones need, and the lack of them became apparent almost instantly.

A mom-friend recommended Baba West, and I started mixing the Baba West Multivitamin and Multibiotic powder, which smells deliciously like strawberries, into her oat milk to make a shake-like drink, and my daughter has been loving it as much as I have been loving the change in her mood, no longer runny nose and better sleep!

Because we live in the United Kingdom, and sunshine is not always a guaranteed presence over the summer months, vitamin D supplements are essential.

The vitamin D spray is for children from 3 years onwards, but I hear that the brand do drops for smaller children too.

I generally find it hard to find baby products that I can trust, and always look for recommendations from people I know. I try to avoid plastics, and shop organic and natural where I can. Baba West has been one of those brands for me, that was initially recommended by a trusted mom-guru, and I feel safe giving to my baby.
